The Fastest Weight Loss Pills? The Liver Detox Diet and Liver Cleansing Foods
Thursday, November 18th, 2010What’s the Fastest Weight Loss Pill on the Market Today?
The weight loss pill industry is HUGE today, and they all claim to be “the fastest weight loss pill”. There are healthier and more long-term things you can and need to do for fast permanent weight loss, but I’ll review some of the fastest weight loss pills, whether they’re safe, FDA approved, ‘benefits’, quality and whether they’re reputable fast weight loss products.
Experts recommend diet pills like Apidexin, LipoFuze, Phenphedrine, etc., which “ensure” fast fat burning and help people lose weight. BUT, it’s not recommended to take any weight loss pill long-term, and usually you’ll gain the weight back (or more!) UNLESS you change your lifestyle, diet and physical activities. Regardless of how you lose the weight, the only way you’ll keep it off and maintain your weight loss goal is by actively and consistently improving your lifestyle.
Here’s a chart from the FDA’s 2010 database showing data for various weight loss pills:
| Product | Claim | Effectiveness | Safety |
|---|---|---|---|
| Alli — OTC version of prescription drug orlistat (Xenical) | Decreases absorption of dietary fat | Effective; weight-loss amounts typically less for OTC versus prescription | FDA investigating reports of liver injury |
| Bitter orange | Increases calories burned | Insufficient reliable evidence to rate | Possibly unsafe |
| Chitosan | Blocks absorption of dietary fat | Insufficient reliable evidence to rate | Possibly safe |
| Chromium | Increases calories burned, decreases appetite and builds muscle | Insufficient reliable evidence to rate | Likely safe |
| Conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) | Reduces body fat and builds muscle | Possibly effective | Possibly safe |
| Country mallow (heartleaf) | Decreases appetite and increases calories burned | Insufficient reliable evidence to rate | Likely unsafe and banned by FDA |
| Ephedra | Decreases appetite | Possibly effective | Likely unsafe and banned by FDA |
| Green tea extract | Increases calorie and fat metabolism and decreases appetite | Insufficient reliable evidence to rate | Possibly safe |
| Guar gum | Blocks absorption of dietary fat and increases feeling of fullness | Possibly ineffective | Likely safe |
| Hoodia | Decreases appetite | Insufficient reliable evidence to rate | Insufficient information
|
As I’ve said before, the FDA banned the weight loss pill “Hydroxycut” due to indication of severe health issues. In 2009 they identified 72 over-the-counter weight loss products that could have adverse health affects. This included “Sibutramine” as a prescription, “Rimonabant” not yet approved, and “Phenolphthalein”, being researched as a ‘cancer-causing’ agent. To identify false claims on fast weight loss supplements, only accept statements made by impartial, governmental or educational agencies, researchers or scientists. Talk to your doctor. They have reliable, up-to-date information about prescription and over-the-counter weight loss aids. And Do Your Research. Don’t trust ‘personal testimonials’.
The Liver Detox Diet and Liver Cleansing Foods
According to WebMD, using a natural liver detox diet to remove toxins from your body sounds good, but most have little supporting scientific data. They’re very restrictive, and can be harmful if not used exactly as indicated. Some potentially harmful toxins they’re designed to remove are caffeine, alcohol, additives and preservatives like artificial sweeteners, sugar, chemicals and pesticides to grow and prepare food, pollution, even water if it’s not totally pure.
A liver detox diet or any detox diet includes fasting, giving up certain kinds of foods, then gradually re-introducing certain foods back into your diet. You might start with a liquid detox diet, then graduate to brown rice, steamed vegetables or fruit. Then you might add other foods except wheat, sugar, eggs, processed/packaged or junk food, and red meat. Natural organic foods, drinks and a lot of water are the usual diets when on a natural liver detox diet. Processed, refined foods, caffeine, alcohol, tobacco drugs and certain supplements aren’t allowed.

Those that recommend a liver detox diet believe that doing this occasionally cleans built up toxins and chemicals from the body, and that it can increase energy and a clearer head, even prevention or cure of chronic disease. Some even recommend a colon irrigation to clean out your colon.
Liver Cleansing Foods
Some natural liver cleansing foods include:
- Fruits like apples, citrus fruits, berries and prunes have high antioxidants
- “Cruciferous” vegetables like broccoli, brussel sprouts and cabbage help the liver produce natural enzymes and protect the liver from toxins in cigarette smoke
- “Bitter” greens like dandelion, chicory or endive stimulate bile production, which helps the liver digest fats. They can be eaten raw in salads
- Lemon tea: Hot water with freshly squeezed lemon juice helps cleanse the liver and blood. Lemon is a natural astringent
- Milk thistle contains “Silymarin”, a popular liver-protecting herb as a tea or supplement, including for Acetaminophen, which can be toxic in high doses
You can research the best and fastest weight loss pills, liver detox diets and liver cleansing foods at reputable sites like the FDA. Just be thorough, and remember: If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is!
