Best Foods to Lose Weight: Metabolism Boosting Foods and Other Good Foods for Weight Loss


Runner’s World lists the 20 best foods to lose weight, and I’ll list them in this post.  They talk about metabolism boosting foods and foods with negative calories as good foods for weight loss, and these are great weight loss tips that work.  I’ll set out the best foods to lose weight below for breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks and desserts.  You know avid runners are very into foods that help increase metabolism for energy, and Runner’s World should know what they are.

I’ll provide a basic list of the 20 best foods to lose weight and provide a link to Runner’s World so you can learn more if you like.  If you concentrate on making diet changes over a year and stick to the plan, you can lose a lot of weight.  Many of these foods will help you reduce 100 calories and more from just one serving.  You can save 15,600 calories in a year just from changing this one food item, and you lose one pound for every 3,500 calories you cut.  Each time you substitute one food item, you’ll double that weight loss.  And DON’T SKIP BREAKFAST.  I ‘preach’ this all the time, but it really is the most important meal of the day, and gives you the energy to burn more calories throughout the day.  Following is a summary of the 20 best foods to lose weight by meal.

The below meal plans include metabolism boosting foods recommended by Runner’s World, and they’re all good foods for weight loss, as well as some foods with negative calories.  I’ll be writing about these in more detail in upcoming posts:

BREAKFAST:

  1. Homemade raisin bran
  2. Scrambled egg whites with greens
  3. A balanced diet shake
  4. A frozen fruit smoothie
  5. Plain toasted bagel (Lender’s) with natural jelly

LUNCH:

  1. A grilled vegetable burger
  2. An “Alvarado Street” sprout wheat tortilla
  3. A Subway roast beef sub
  4. “Health Valley” chili 
  5. Plain tossed salad with croutons rather than salad dressing

DINNER:

  1. Spaghetti squash
  2. “Papadini” pure lentil, high protein bean pasta
  3. “Idaho Supreme” potato pasta
  4. “Advantage 10″ pizza 
  5. “Barbara’s mashed potatoes”

SNACKS:

  1. Frozen bananas, blueberries and/or grapes
  2. Dried mango, papaya and/or dates
  3. “Glenny’s” cinnamon apple Soy Crisps (low fat)

DESSERTS:

  1. “Chocolate Dreams” cookies
  2. “Haagen Daz” chocolate sorbet

This gives you a basic list of the 20 best foods to lose weight according to Runner’s World.  I’ll go into more detail of these metabolism boosting foods in the next post.  They’re very good foods for weight loss, and many are foods with negative calories.

Fasting to lose weight needs to be done safely and for a short period of time, but it can help you lose weight fast. I’m going to review the proper way of fasting to lose weight, rapid weight loss diets, the proper diet to lose weight, and how walking to lose weight is one of the healthiest and easiest ways to lose weight quickly.

One of the best fasting diets to lose weight is an organic juice diet using whole natural organic fruits and vegetables. You don’t peel them, and you juice the whole item, peel, seeds and all, as that’s where the nutrients are. There’s no fat, but there’s also no protein and it can cause fatigue due to lowered blood sugar, so fasting to lose weight should be for a short period of time, 24, 48 or 72 hours. There’s 3,000 calories to a pound, so you need to lose or burn 3,000 calories for every pound you want to lose. Most of us eat more than this, so you don’t need to totally cut out your calorie intake, just reduce it.

Walking to lose weight is one of the healthiest and safest ways to lose weight and get fit, and you walk every day. Get a pedometer to monitor how much you actually walk in your day to day activities, and increase the distance and speed you walk. There are shoes you can wear to help get you firm and fit more quickly, and you can listen to music and vary your walks to keep it fresh and not fatigue as much. Always stretch before you do any form of exercise, and set realistic goals. You won’t skip walking as much as you would running, it’s easier on your body and joints, and you can do it every day with less risk of injury. Being more consistent, you can actually burn more calories than you would running. As you build stamina, speed up your walking to burn more calories faster. If you want to jog, all the better if you’re up to it, and your body’s conditioned for it.
