The 3 Day Diet Plan

The 3 Day Diet Plan has been around since 1985.  It promises quick weight loss, lower cholesterol, more energy and cleansing.  There’s currently no information that substantiates the science behind this metabolic reaction concept.  3 day diet plans are sometimes called the “Cleveland Clinic Diet”.  It’s very regimented, and must be followed exactly for three days, followed by normal eating four to five days with the option of continuing the 3 day diet again.

People that follow the 3 day diet plan are promised up to ten pounds of weight loss in three days.  However, a lot of this weight loss may be water weight.  The foods and portions specified in 3 day diet plans must be eaten exactly as indicated, and dieters are warned not to over-eat or under-eat.  These 3 day diets do not recommend exercise.

About 3 Day Diets and 3 Day Diet Plans

The 3 Day Diet Plan is not related to the Cleveland Clinic, and the reason it’s been purported as successful is because it’s so low in calories.  3 day diets include eating about 1,000 calories a day, which can affect metabolism, and you may gain weight back more quickly when you eat normally.  You may also get hungrier and eat more.  3 day diet plans may or may not help you change habits or encourage you to live a healthier lifestyle, which is essential in controlling weight.

The 3 day diet is very low in carbohydrates which encourage your body to retain more water.  When you eat normally, more than likely the water weight will return.  3 day diets are very restrictive, and as many fad diets, most times cannot be maintained.  Weight loss is possible, but it can be a yo-yo diet or on again, off again, which usually isn’t successful.  You need to have a well-balance weight loss plan that controls calories daily, includes exercise, and allows a wide variety of healthy food.  You have to address your eating habits that cause you to gain weight.

Do 3 Day Diet Plans Work?

3 day diet plans can work, but you have to weigh the pros and cons.  It’s not a life-long weight loss plan, and the menu is very limited and specific.  An example of the 3 day diet plan includes:

Day 1

Breakfast

  • Black tea or coffee with 1-2 packets of Equal or Sweet & Low
  • Juice or 1/2 grapefruit
  • 1 piece of toast with 1 T peanut butter

Lunch

  • 1/2 c tuna
  • 1 piece of toast
  • Black tea or coffee with 1-2 packets Equal or Sweet & Low

Dinner

  • 3 ounces of chicken or any lean meat
  • 1 c green beans
  • 1 c carrots
  • 1 apple
  • 1 c regular vanilla ice cream

Dieters must also drink 4 cups of water or non-caloric drinks every day with 3 day diet plans.  They say that you can add salt, pepper, lemon, vinegar, ketchup and mustard, herbs and Worcestershire or soy sauce to your foods.

The 3 day diet plan is suppose to create a metabolic reaction to boost fat burning, but there’s no documentation that shows this.  It’s basically a body cleansing and detoxification, and the reason for returning to “normal eating” following it is to keep your metabolism from slowing down.
